Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has accused State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain of violating his oath of office by displaying a firearm during an anti-drug drive in Dhaka’s Gandaria area on October 17.

In a statement on Sunday, Jamaat leader Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair condemned the incident, describing it as a sign of a “reign of terror”.

He said displaying a firearm to intimidate people was unlawful and unacceptable, even if the weapon was legally licensed.

He also criticised the conduct of the minister’s bodyguards and urged the authorities to take necessary action.

The Jamaat leader warned that such actions could encourage criminal elements and called for stronger law enforcement to combat drug-related crimes through lawful means.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into the incident to determine whether any laws were violated. Police said legal action would follow if wrongdoing is established.
