An Indian man from Uttarakhand’s Almora district has built a prototype electric flying vehicle after 13 years of self-directed learning and hands-on experimentation, despite having no formal education in science or engineering.

Ravi Tamta, a Bachelor of Arts graduate, developed the single-seater vehicle, HAPIDsupportX, by learning through online resources and conducting years of experiments, with support from his family.

The vehicle completed a test flight in August, marking a milestone in Tamta’s long journey from independent learner to aspiring inventor.

His story challenges conventional ideas about who can innovate and where technical learning begins. It also highlights the role of curiosity, persistence and access to online resources in enabling people to explore complex technologies beyond traditional classrooms.

However, developing an experimental flying vehicle is only one step towards making the technology practical. Further testing, engineering validation and compliance with aviation safety regulations are essential before such a vehicle can be considered safe for wider use. Source: India Today
