Three passengers were killed and at least 16 others injured after a Darshana Paribahan bus broke through a roadside railing and plunged into a ditch on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj early Saturday.

The accident occurred in the Hasara area of Srinagar upazila on October 24.

Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the incident.

One of the deceased was identified as Rukunuzzaman Ronju, 55, a resident of Chuadanga. The identities of the other two victims were not immediately known.

Shafiqul Islam said the bus was travelling from Chuadanga to Dhaka when the driver lost control while overtaking a covered van at high speed. The bus broke through the roadside railing, crossed the service lane and fell into a nearby ditch.

After receiving the report, two rescue units from the Srinagar Fire Station rushed to the scene and launched a rescue operation.

Rescuers recovered the bodies of three passengers. They also rescued 11 injured people and transported them to Srinagar Upazila Health Complex by Fire Service ambulance. Five others received first aid at the scene.

The bodies were handed over to highway police, the fire service official said.
