Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has decided to install modern security equipment at metro rail stations in the capital to strengthen security and ensure passenger safety.

DMTCL Director Md Nazrul Islam disclosed the decision on Sunday (October 25).

Under the proposed system, passengers will be screened using archway metal detectors to detect metal objects on their bodies, while luggage scanners will be used to check bags and other belongings before they enter stations, he said.

To procure the necessary equipment, DMTCL invited tenders online on October 19. Mohammad Asaduzzaman, general manager of the company’s Stores and Procurement Department, issued the tender notice.

The notice asks interested and eligible firms to submit their bids through the national e-Government Procurement (e-GP) portal. Details and guidelines are available on the portal.

Once introduced, the new system will allow authorities to scan passengers’ bags and belongings and detect metal objects carried on their bodies. Officials expect the measures to strengthen security screening and help prevent unwanted incidents.

However, no specific timeline has been announced for the procurement, the number of devices to be purchased, the stations to be covered in the first phase or the start of routine passenger screening.

The same tender notice also covers an annual maintenance contract for electrical systems at the depot of the MRT Line-6 project. The work will include maintenance of low-voltage (LV) systems, diesel generator sets, uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems, ventilation systems and other general electrical installations.
