The Mahanagar Express, which currently operates on the Dhaka–Chattogram route, will extend its service to Cox’s Bazar from Monday, October 26.
The first journey on the extended route will depart from Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka at 8:30pm on Monday.
Railway Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam is scheduled to inaugurate the service.
According to the revised schedule, the train will reach Chattogram at 2:40am and arrive at Cox’s Bazar Railway Station at 6:00am the following day.
On the return journey, the train will leave Cox’s Bazar in the morning and reach Dhaka at 6:30pm via Chattogram.
The train will stop at 11 stations along the route, including Dhaka Airport, Narsingdi, Bhairab Bazar, Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, Akhaura, Kasba, Cumilla, Laksham, Nangalkot and Feni. However, it will no longer stop at Kumira station in Chattogram.
The extended service will allow passengers from intermediate stations to travel directly to Cox’s Bazar without changing trains.
The 16-coach train will have a capacity of up to 736 passengers and operate six days a week, remaining closed on Sundays.
With the addition of the Mahanagar Express, the number of direct train services between Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar will rise to three, alongside the Cox’s Bazar Express and the Parjatak Express.
