The government is planning to expedite recruitment to fill around 34,500 vacant headteacher posts in government primary schools, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj has said.
He made the remarks on Monday (October 26) while visiting Mahutuli Renaissance Government Primary School and Prasanna Poddar Lane Government Primary School in Old Dhaka’s Kotwali area.
The state minister said discussions were underway with the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) to speed up the recruitment process.
Filling the vacancies would strengthen school administration and leadership, he said.
Hajjaj added that the government was also considering promoting skilled and experienced teachers, in coordination with existing recruitment rules and the BPSC’s procedures.
Once the headteacher recruitment process is completed, the need for recruiting assistant teachers will also be reassessed, he said.
Officials from the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Directorate of Primary Education and the local administration were present during the visits.
Meanwhile, the Appellate Division has published its full verdict allowing the state’s appeal against a High Court ruling on seniority and promotions for teachers at nationalised primary schools.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus said the ruling had cleared a longstanding legal hurdle in recruiting headteachers for around 32,000 government primary schools. The 29-page verdict was published on Sunday (October 25).
