Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar has denied allegations that he held a secret meeting with a senior Indian intelligence officer in Dhaka, telling the BBC that the claim was false.
The allegation was raised by Md Rashed Khan, a political assistant to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who claimed that the meeting took place at a house in the capital’s Baridhara area on October 16, after Maghrib prayers.
Rashed alleged that Porwar and Jamaat leader ATM Masum were among those present at the meeting with the Indian intelligence official.
Rejecting the allegation, Porwar challenged Rashed to provide evidence, questioning the authenticity of the claim and suggesting that artificial intelligence could be used to create a misleading image purporting to show such a meeting.
Rashed, however, maintained that his allegation was true.
Neither side has publicly presented independently verifiable evidence establishing whether the alleged meeting took place.
