DHAKA: Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh on Tuesday observed Kashmir Black Day in a befitting manner.
To mark the anniversary of the events of October 27, 1947, when Indian troops entered Kashmir to occupy the valley, the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka organised a programme at its chancery.
High Commissioner Imran Haider read out the president’s message, Deputy High Commissioner Mohammad Wasir read the prime minister’s message, and Political Counsellor Kamran Dangol read the foreign minister’s message.
Among the Bangladeshi participants, Mohammad Shamsuddin, convener of Nagorik Parishad, addressed the event.
A documentary highlighting alleged oppression in Kashmir since 1947 was screened at the programme.
The event concluded with a special prayer seeking freedom, peace and prosperity for the people of Kashmir, as well as unity and prosperity for Muslims worldwide.
In his speech, Shamsuddin said the people of Bangladesh supported the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, freedom and sovereignty.
He called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to stand by the oppressed people of Kashmir in securing the civil and human rights guaranteed under the UN Charter.
He also expressed gratitude to the government and people of Pakistan for continuing to speak out in support of the people of Kashmir.
