Bangladesh’s bilateral talks with Japan during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s four-day state visit have been productive, State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1 Humaiun Kobir said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks at a press conference at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday evening.
Kobir said the prime minister had a busy second day of the visit, holding a formal bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at her office. The programme also included a guard of honour, a joint press briefing and a luncheon.
Highlighting the key outcomes of the summit, Kobir said Japanese private-sector investors had expressed interest in investing around US$6.3 billion in Bangladesh, with the potential to create about 200,000 jobs.
The two leaders also agreed to expedite the implementation and entry into force of the Bangladesh-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), he said.
Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon and Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin were present at the press conference.
