Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has dismissed reports alleging that its leaders held a secret meeting with an Indian intelligence official as a “conspiracy” aimed at misleading the public.
The controversy erupted after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s political assistant, Md Rashed Khan, alleged that Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar and other party leaders had met a senior Indian intelligence official in Dhaka’s Baridhara area.
Porwar rejected the allegation as false and demanded evidence to substantiate the claim.
Jamaat leaders have also described the allegation as fabricated, questioning why the party would secretly meet representatives of an intelligence agency.
Rashed, however, has maintained that the alleged meeting took place, insisting that his information was accurate.
The allegation remains disputed, with no independently verified evidence publicly establishing that the meeting occurred.
