US President Donald Trump has suggested that Venezuela could potentially become the 51st state of the United States. He also described an oil deal with Venezuela as the biggest energy victory in history, pointing to a tanker carrying one million barrels of oil from the country.

Trump made the remarks at a campaign rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Tuesday (October 27). Nearly nine months after Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was ousted from power, Trump spoke about the US oil deal with Venezuela’s interim government.

Trump said Venezuela would one day become a prosperous country and suggested that it could even become the 51st US state in the near future. He said such a possibility existed.

Trump claimed that the agreement with Venezuela’s interim government would give the United States access to a vast quantity of oil, potentially amounting to several billion barrels. Pointing to a tanker off the Texas coast, he said it was carrying one million barrels of oil. He also claimed the oil was being provided to the United States at no cost to American taxpayers.

“We are celebrating the biggest oil victory in history,” Trump said at the rally.

Earlier, in a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that he had turned the Western Hemisphere into the world’s energy capital by expanding US dominance in the energy sector from Alaska to Venezuela.

However, the deal has also drawn criticism. Critics argue that the Trump administration has not done enough to facilitate a transition to democratic governance in Venezuela. The report noted that no election had been held in the country since Maduro was detained in a US military operation in January.

Meanwhile, energy prices in the United States have risen following the country’s involvement in the war with Iran. Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz has raised concerns about global oil supplies. Around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the strait, according to the report.

Trump has claimed that the Venezuelan oil deal will soon lead to a sharp decline in US energy prices. However, debate continues over the deal’s actual impact and Venezuela’s political future. Source: The Guardian.
