Italy has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding technology cooperation, investment and long-term industrial partnerships with Bangladesh’s textile and apparel sector, highlighting the country’s growing importance as a manufacturing hub and promising destination for advanced industrial collaboration.

Speaking at the ‘Italian Textile Technologies with B2B Meetings’ workshop organised by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Italian Ambassador Antonio Alessandro said Italy remains keen to deepen its engagement with Bangladesh through technology transfer, innovation and investment.

The ambassador said bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Italy has exceeded €2 billion, with Italy importing goods worth around €1.6 billion from Bangladesh. He noted that Italian companies have been trusted partners in the development of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry for more than four decades.

Alessandro praised Bangladesh’s significant progress in workplace safety, compliance standards and technological advancement, but said the industry’s future competitiveness would depend on greater product diversification, adoption of advanced machinery, development of innovative textiles and sustainable manufacturing practices.

He said Italian companies are ready to support Bangladesh’s next phase of industrial growth by supplying cutting-edge technologies, technical expertise and innovative solutions.

Describing Chattogram as one of Bangladesh’s key economic engines, the ambassador encouraged stronger collaboration between businesses of the two countries, saying the current business environment offers excellent opportunities for investment and long-term industrial partnerships.

CCCI President Mohammad Amirul Haque said Chattogram’s expanding economic zones, free trade zones and strategic geographical location have created favourable conditions for international investors.

He invited Italian companies to become long-term partners in Bangladesh’s industrial development through investment, technology transfer and collaboration in sectors including textiles, leather, steel and other manufacturing industries.

Mirza Salman Ispahani, Honorary Consul of Italy in Bangladesh and Chairman of the Ispahani Group, said demand for Italian textile machinery continues to grow in Bangladesh as manufacturers increasingly seek advanced technologies to improve productivity and competitiveness.

He said business-to-business (B2B) engagements such as the workshop provide an effective platform for exchanging technical knowledge, showcasing innovation and strengthening long-term commercial relationships between Italian and Bangladeshi companies.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT), 11 leading Italian textile machinery companies and senior executives from Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry to explore new business opportunities and technological collaboration.
