DHAKA: Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President and former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has appealed against his 10-year prison sentence in a crimes against humanity case, seeking acquittal.
The appeal was filed with the relevant section of the Supreme Court on Wednesday, October 14.
On June 30, International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Inu to 10 years in prison on each of three charges. However, the tribunal ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 10 years in prison.
The charges against Inu in the case included crimes against humanity linked to the suppression of the July-August mass uprising, including his conversations with then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina concerning command responsibility and the killing of six people in Kushtia.
Police arrested Inu in Dhaka’s Uttara area on August 26, 2024. He is also facing trial before the tribunal in a separate case related to the Shapla Chattar massacre.
