A 26-year-old man allegedly used artificial intelligence (AI) to learn how to make illicit liquor by mixing chemicals and water at home, which later killed 13 people in India’s Madhya Pradesh state.
Police have arrested 11 people, including the prime accused, Ajay Rathore, in connection with the incident in Dewas district.
During interrogation, Ajay reportedly told investigators that he had learned the method of making counterfeit liquor using AI. He allegedly mixed the homemade liquor with genuine alcohol before selling it.
According to investigators, the gang filled empty bottles of licensed liquor brands with the counterfeit product and distributed them, mainly targeting rural areas.
Police said the illicit liquor was produced at a house between October 2 and 6-7, with two other men allegedly involved in the process. It was sold between October 7 and 12.
The investigation also revealed that deaths linked to consumption of the counterfeit liquor began on September 27, with the death toll reaching 13 so far.
Police have sealed a warehouse in Indore over alleged supplies of chemicals used in the production. Investigations are continuing to identify others involved in the operation.
