GAZIPUR: Mohammad Aminul Islam passed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination in 1999, 27 years ago. However, he had to discontinue his studies amid the demands of life. He later became an elected public representative.

Years passed, but his desire to complete higher secondary education remained alive. He has finally fulfilled that dream, passing the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination at the age of 47.

Aminul is the son of Torab Ali of Medical Mor area in Chakpara village of Maona Union, Sreepur upazila, Gazipur. He is a member of Ward No. 2 of Maona Union Parishad and has served three consecutive terms in the position.

He lives with his wife and three sons. This year, his wife, Mst Husne Ara, and eldest son, Mohammad Swadhin, also passed their SSC examinations. With three members of the family passing examinations in the same year, their home is now filled with a festive atmosphere.

Local residents see the family as an example of how age, family responsibilities and busy schedules cannot stand in the way of learning.

Aminul appeared in this year’s HSC examination from the Dress Making trade at Pubail Technical College in Gazipur city. He secured a GPA of 4.46.

Talking to the local media men, he said, “I received the news of my results from my wife over the phone in the afternoon. I was overjoyed. Resuming my studies after 27 years and passing the examination is a great achievement for me. I had long wanted to pass the HSC examination, and that dream has now come true. I want to continue my studies and pursue law,” Aminul said.
