State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir has said that no ordinary passport or travel pass will be issued to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been sentenced to death, to facilitate her return from India.

He said Hasina would have to be brought back from New Delhi under the existing extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.

The state minister made the remarks on Thursday (November 5) while responding to a question from journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka after seeing off a Chinese delegation led by Liu Haixing, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Commenting on a proposed trilateral corridor involving China, Bangladesh and Myanmar, Humayun Kabir said its implementation would turn the region into an important trade hub.

He said Dhaka was keen to join the regional corridor, but stressed that a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis would be necessary first.

The state minister expressed hope that Liu Haixing’s visit would further deepen and strengthen bilateral and strategic relations between Bangladesh and China.

Liu Haixing left Dhaka on Thursday after a three-day visit to Bangladesh.
