A Dhaka court has set December 9 for submission of the investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

This marks the 131st extension granted to the investigating agency for submitting the report.

Thursday was scheduled for submission of the investigation report. However, as the investigating agency failed to submit it, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam fixed a new date.

Rafiqul Islam, a sub-inspector and official of the general registration branch of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, confirmed the matter.

On February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarowar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented apartment in West Rajabazar in the capital.

Following the killings, Runi’s brother, Nowsher Alam Roman, filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

On September 30, 2024, the High Court ordered that the investigation be transferred from the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) to a high-powered task force formed through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
