Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday pledged the government’s full support for young entrepreneurs, saying his administration would stand by them and help turn their innovative ideas into successful businesses.
Speaking at a programme titled “Youth, Startups and the Bangladesh of Possibilities” at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the University of Dhaka, the prime minister interacted with a group of young entrepreneurs, listened to their presentations and answered their questions.
He also handed grants to six selected startups.
Addressing the participants, Tarique said the time had come to move beyond words and focus on action.
“What you want to do is not easy; it is very difficult. But you can succeed if you have the determination,” he told the aspiring entrepreneurs.
Sharing his own experience, Tarique said he had briefly engaged in business before entering politics and had chosen to devote most of his life to public service.
He said his political journey involved mental and physical torture, humiliation and many tests of patience, adding that success often comes only after enduring hardship.
The prime minister assured the entrepreneurs that the government would remain by their side.
“We are with you—to help you, guide you and support you. We may not be able to do everything, but we will do our utmost to stand beside you, InshaAllah,” he said.
Tarique also said recent interactions with young students and entrepreneurs had strengthened his confidence in Bangladesh’s future.
“As the head of government, we think about every sector of the country. Seeing your work today, and meeting millions of talented schoolchildren recently, has made me confident that the next generation will be able to take Bangladesh forward from where we leave it,” he said.
The programme was attended by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Al Mozadded Al-Fesani, and other university officials.
