The Sylhet Education Board has issued show-cause notices to four teachers responsible for moderating the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Physics (Theory) First Paper question paper after serious errors were found in the exam.
The notices were served by Sylhet Education Board Controller of Examinations Professor Bilkis Yasmin, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday evening.
The teachers asked to explain their roles are Professor Md. Mujibur Rahman of Sreemangal Government College, Assistant Professor Kazi Junayed Al Amin of Brindaban Government College, Assistant Professor Mosaddek Hossain Khan of MC College, and Lecturer Mohammad Helal Uddin of Sylhet Government Model School and College.
The government has acknowledged that Questions 6 and 7 of the Physics examination contained errors. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday, Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon said all candidates would be awarded full marks for the two faulty questions.
According to the ministry, the serious mistakes in the creative section of the Physics (Theory) First Paper, held on Monday, caused significant confusion and mental stress among examinees during the examination.
The ministry described the inclusion of such errors as a serious act of negligence and a failure to discharge professional responsibilities by those involved in reviewing and moderating the question paper.
It also said the incident had damaged the reputation of the Sylhet Education Board. The four teachers have been directed to submit written explanations within three working days, stating why departmental action should not be taken against them for the lapses.
This year’s HSC examinations are being conducted under a common question paper across all nine general education boards in Bangladesh.
