Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Mahdi Amin on Friday stressed the need to expand overseas employment opportunities for Bangladeshi women through safe, orderly and dignified migration.
He made the remarks when a delegation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), led by its Chief of Mission Laura Tom Bond, paid a courtesy call on him at the Prime Minister’s Office, according to an official release.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation to improve migration management, expand safe labour migration opportunities and enhance protection for Bangladeshi migrant workers.
Mahdi Amin, who also serves as the Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson, highlighted the importance of exploring new overseas labour markets, particularly in the Middle East and other emerging destinations.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to increase the deployment of skilled workers, enhance vocational training and develop a workforce that meets evolving global labour market demands.
The adviser placed particular emphasis on creating greater overseas employment opportunities for women through safe and dignified migration, saying such initiatives would contribute to their economic empowerment while ensuring their rights and security.
The two sides also discussed measures to make the migration process safer, more transparent, orderly and affordable by introducing technology-driven, accountable services and developing a more accessible migration system for outbound workers.
The IOM delegation briefed the adviser on the organisation’s ongoing activities in Bangladesh and expressed interest in expanding technical and technological support for the government’s migration initiatives.
The delegation reaffirmed IOM’s commitment to assisting Bangladesh in strengthening migration governance, modernising services for migrant workers and supporting the implementation of government programmes in the sector.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for launching Bangladesh’s National Action Plan under the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), which is being implemented in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh.
