Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that communal harmony must be preserved, even at the cost of blood.
He made the remarks while addressing a memorial meeting marking the birth and death anniversaries of Mahatma Begai Haldar at the Shaheed Shafiur Rahman Auditorium of the Supreme Court Bar Association in Dhaka on Friday afternoon.
The minister said those who advocate for a single religion or a single culture fail to understand the laws of nature.
During the event, Swapan also pledged to undertake various development initiatives in his parliamentary constituency.
He assured the audience that places associated with the memory of Begai Haldar would be preserved, brought under national protection and developed, including the construction of a modern temple.
Later, the Information Minister presented honorary crests to distinguished students from Agailjhara upazila in Barishal.
