BSEC chief calls for Banglalink listing on stock market

18 July 2026 17:52 Updated: 18 July 2026 17:52

Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Chairman Masud Khan has called for the listing of leading multinational companies, including Banglalink, in the country’s stock market, saying the inclusion of quality firms is essential to restoring investor confidence and strengthening the capital market.

Speaking at a mock parliamentary debate on “Way Forward to Mitigate Confidence Crisis in the Stock Market” at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) on Saturday, Masud said ensuring good governance, accountability and political commitment is vital for rebuilding trust in the market.

He announced that the securities regulator plans to introduce a direct listing mechanism to encourage reputed multinational corporations and large industrial groups to enter the capital market.

“If good companies can be listed, there will be no need for roadshows,” he said, adding that spending money on promotional roadshows is unnecessary when the market itself offers attractive investment opportunities.

Masud also said the BSEC has intensified regular audits of brokerage houses to curb irregularities and improve market transparency.

The programme was organised by Debate for Democracy, with its Chairman Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiran presiding over the event.

Addressing the programme, Kiran urged multinational companies operating in Bangladesh to join the stock market, specifically naming Banglalink, Standard Chartered Bank, MetLife, Nestlé Bangladesh and Procter & Gamble (P&G).

He said the participation of internationally reputed companies would deepen the capital market, diversify investment opportunities and enhance investor confidence.

The debate competition concluded with Prime University defeating Sonargaon University.
Professor Abu Muhammad Rais and journalists Mainul Alam, Faruk Mehedi, Iqbal Ahsan and Hossain Shahadat served as judges.
