The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has outlined what it described as the government’s five major achievements as it completed 150 days, or five months, in office.
The achievements highlighted include: earning public trust and support, implementing election manifesto commitments, addressing economic and administrative challenges within a short period, safeguarding national independence and sovereignty, and the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The details were presented at a press conference held at the Karobi Hall of the PMO in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Saturday.
The briefing was conducted by PMO Spokesperson and Adviser to the Prime Minister (with the status of a state minister), Mahdi Amin.
Also present were Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Saleh Shibly, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumman, DPS-1 Zahidul Islam Rony, and members of the PMO Press Wing.
Mahdi Amin said that although the government’s first five months represented a relatively short period, it had prioritised transparency, good governance, accountability and public welfare in running the state. He claimed that the government had already laid the foundation for building a democratic, humane and discrimination-free Bangladesh by overcoming longstanding challenges.
According to him, the government’s achievements have been grouped into five broad areas: gaining the trust, love and support of the people; implementing election manifesto pledges; tackling economic and administrative challenges within a short time; prioritising national independence and sovereignty; and the statesmanlike leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Highlighting key initiatives, he said the government had already taken measures to curb commodity prices, accelerate judicial proceedings, launch a programme to plant 250 million trees, introduce electric buses, implement AI-based traffic management, boost remittance inflows, strengthen foreign exchange reserves, and reduce government expenditure by forgoing special privileges for cabinet members.
He added that the government had introduced dedicated benefits for farmers, women, students, freelancers, athletes and expatriates, while planning to launch an integrated Universal Card in the future. Reform initiatives are also progressing in the health, education, agriculture, employment and social protection sectors.
Mahdi Amin further said Bangladesh had reached new heights internationally through strategic partnerships with various countries, attracting foreign investment, opening new overseas labour markets and pursuing a balanced foreign policy.
Concluding the briefing, he said that in just 150 days the government had not only addressed immediate challenges but had also begun laying the groundwork for a democratic, equitable and prosperous Bangladesh. He added that the government would continue working with the same commitment and determination to fulfil the people’s expectations.
