Bollywood actress Kajol has candidly admitted that despite her Bengali roots, she still cannot speak the language fluently and does not regularly watch Bengali films.
Speaking to reporters after receiving an award at a ceremony in Kolkata, Kajol was asked whether she watches Bengali movies. Without hesitation, she replied, “No.” However, she expressed a strong desire to work in Bengali cinema if the right opportunity and timing come together.
Kajol, the daughter of veteran actress Tanuja, said she continues to strive to match her mother’s remarkable legacy. Tanuja enjoyed a distinguished career in both Hindi and Bengali cinema.
Asked whether she has been able to become an actress like her mother, Kajol responded modestly, “I’m still trying. My mother is a much greater actress. I have spent my entire life following the path she showed me.”
The actress also spoke about her disciplined lifestyle, saying punctuality has always been one of her greatest strengths.
“I am very disciplined. There are very few people in Bollywood who arrive on set on time, and I am one of them. I also leave the set on time. That’s just the way I am,” she said.
Kajol made the remarks while attending Anandabazar Patrika’s “Best of the Year” awards in Kolkata. The event also honoured several prominent personalities from West Bengal’s entertainment and cultural industries, including actors Paoli Dam and Dev, singer Nikita Gandhi, and playwright-politician Bratya Basu. Kajol’s candid remarks at the ceremony drew considerable attention from fans and the media.
