Jamaat to inform EC of MP Nazrul’s expulsion

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has decided to immediately inform the Election Commission (EC) of its decision to expel Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party after an internal investigation found allegations of moral misconduct against him to be substantiated.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the party’s Central Executive Council, held on Wednesday at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Minto Road in Dhaka.

The meeting was chaired by Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman, MP, and attended by members of the party’s Central Executive Council.

According to a party statement, the organisational investigation was launched following recent media reports concerning Gazi Nazrul Islam. The inquiry concluded that allegations of moral misconduct had been proven.

Based on the findings, the Central Executive Council decided to expel him from the party under Article 62 of the Jamaat constitution.

The party also resolved to immediately notify the Bangladesh Election Commission of the expulsion decision.
