A major disruption in gas supply has plunged Dhaka and surrounding areas into severe hardship following a mechanical fault at the country’s only floating LNG terminal in Maheshkhali.
The technical glitch has significantly reduced gas flow to the national grid, triggering an acute shortage at CNG filling stations and in residential areas across the capital.
Since Thursday morning, many CNG stations have displayed “No Gas” signs, leaving drivers stranded. At a few stations where supply continues, low pressure has resulted in long queues, with drivers waiting for hours to refuel.
Transport operators say the crisis has crippled their ability to operate vehicles and earn a living. After waiting for hours without getting gas, many now face growing uncertainty over daily income, loan repayments, and household expenses.
Station managers confirm that irregular gas supply over the past few days has made it difficult to provide adequate service to customers.
The impact extends beyond transport. Disruptions in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply have caused widespread shortages in areas under Titas Gas distribution, severely affecting daily life in residential neighborhoods.
In many parts of the city—including Jatrabari, Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Adabor, and Banasree—residents report little to no gas supply throughout the day. Cooking stoves remain unlit, leaving families struggling to prepare meals from morning to night.
Titas Gas authorities said the situation is temporary and caused by technical issues at the Maheshkhali terminal. They warned that all categories of consumers may continue to face low gas pressure until the problem is resolved.
Officials added that efforts are underway to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.
