A fire broke out at a chemical factory in Savar early Sunday, leaving five people injured, including four firefighters, officials said.

The blaze erupted at a paint-mixing chemical plant located in a six-storey building in the Hemayetpur area, near the Dhaka–Aricha highway. Firefighters brought the flames under control around 7:00 a.m. after several hours of effort.

Factory workers initially suspected the fire may have originated from an electrical meter, though the cause has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

According to police and fire service sources, two firefighting units rushed to the scene after locals noticed thick smoke rising from the building and alerted emergency services. During the operation, repeated explosions inside the chemical storage area complicated efforts to extinguish the fire.

The injured were identified as firefighters Shamim, Ujjal, Omar Faruk, and team leader Monowar Hossain, along with a local resident, Moshiur Rahman.

All received primary treatment, while Moshiur Rahman, 40, was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital. He is reported to be out of danger.

Fire Service official Monowar Hossain said crews began working at the scene around 1:00 a.m. after receiving the alert shortly after midnight. The fire was fully contained by morning, and operations concluded around 7:00 a.m.

Authorities said an investigation will determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
