The Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) has rescued 18 fishermen along with their disabled fishing boat after it drifted in deep waters due to engine failure.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said on Wednesday that the fishing boat FB Nishan-2 developed engine trouble about 10 nautical miles from the Sangu Gas Field while returning from a fishing trip on Tuesday morning.
According to the Coast Guard, one of the fishermen informed the boat owner about the emergency around 1:00 pm. The owner then called the national emergency service, 999, seeking assistance, which prompted the Coast Guard to launch an immediate rescue operation.
The Coast Guard patrol vessel Shyamal Bangla was dispatched to the area and successfully rescued all 18 fishermen along with the stranded boat.
The rescued fishermen were provided with first aid and food before being safely handed over to the boat owner. The Coast Guard said it will continue carrying out such emergency rescue missions to ensure the safety of those at sea.
