The number of Bangladeshi nationals killed in a fire at a sofa manufacturing factory in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, has risen to 16.
The information was confirmed in a post published on the verified Facebook page of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 8:17am on Monday.
The fire broke out at the factory around noon on Sunday. Of the Bangladeshi victims, 13 were from Naogaon, two from Natore, and one from Rajshahi.
The deceased have been identified as Farid, Shuvo, Rubel Pramanik, Suman, Kalimuddin, Mohan Pramanik, Suman Pramanik, Minhaj, Hridoy, Shahin, Abdul Jalil, Majidul, Sagar, Shamim and Sabbir from Naogaon and Natore, and Shyamal from Rajshahi.
The foreign minister and foreign affairs adviser expressed deep sorrow and condolences over the deaths of the Bangladeshi citizens. They conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved families and assured them of the government’s support during this time of immense loss and grief.
According to the ministry’s Facebook post, officials from the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh rushed to the scene immediately after receiving news of the accident. They are working closely with the relevant Saudi authorities to identify the victims and complete the necessary formalities for repatriating the bodies.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is closely monitoring the situation and providing assistance as needed.
