Three people, including a woman, were killed and at least 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a local bus in Gopalganj on Tuesday.
The accident occurred around noon in the Boultali area on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat regional highway in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as bus driver Md Nadim Sheikh, 28, and passenger Abu Hasib Mosshally, 19. The identity of the third victim, a woman, could not immediately be confirmed.
Nadim was the son of Md Sipon Sheikh of Uttar Chandibari village in Saltha upazila of Faridpur, while Hasib was the son of Md Abul Kader Mosshally of Boro Katli village in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
Police said a local bus travelling from Tekerhat towards Gopalganj collided head-on with an oncoming truck. The bus fell into a roadside ditch, while the truck overturned on the road.
Fire Service personnel and police, assisted by locals, rescued the victims and sent them to Gopalganj Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj 250-Bed General Hospital.
Many of the injured are reportedly in critical condition, and the death toll may rise.
