Dinajpur: A mother and her 12-year-old daughter were killed after falling onto the road and being run over by a truck following a collision with their motorcycle in Ghoraghat, Dinajpur On Friday. The girl’s father was injured in the accident.
The accident occurred around 12 noon in the Jamilapur area of Ward No. 1 of Ghoraghat Municipality.
The deceased were Mosammat Shampa Begum, 35, wife of Selim Hossain of Nasirabad area in Gobindaganj upazila, and her daughter, Nusaifa Akter, 12.
According to locals, Shampa Begum, her daughter Nusaifa and the girl’s father were traveling by motorcycle to their son-in-law’s house in the Baganbari area of Ghoraghat. When they reached Jamilapur, a truck coming from behind hit their motorcycle. All three fell onto the road. Shampa and Nusaifa were run over by the truck and died on the spot. The girl’s father was injured in the accident.
Locals later rescued the injured man and took him to a hospital for treatment.
Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said police quickly reached the scene after receiving information about the accident. “The mother and daughter died tragically at the scene, while another person was injured,” he said.
He added that necessary legal action was being taken in connection with the incident.
