Netrokona: A fisherman was killed and three others were injured after lightning struck while they were fishing in the Mahishasur haor in Kalmakanda upazila, a border area of Netrokona.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (August 26).
The deceased was identified as Ratan Das, 35, son of Niranjan Das of Nayapara village under Kalmakanda Sadar Union.
The injured were Joysen Das, 25, Hridoy Das, 22, and Dinanath Das, 45, all residents of Nayapara village and fishermen by profession.
According to police and local sources, the four fishermen were fishing from a boat in Mahishasur haor in the early hours of Wednesday when lightning suddenly struck. Ratan Das died on the spot, while the other three fishermen were injured. Later, locals rescued them and took them to a hospital for treatment. The injured reportedly suffered hearing problems due to the intensity of the lightning strike.
Kalmakanda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mostafizur Rahman said an unnatural death (UD) case had been filed over the incident. After completing the legal procedures, the body was handed over to the deceased’s relatives.
