Fire breaks out at power substation in Brahmanbaria

A fire broke out at the old electrical substation in Datiara area of Brahmanbaria town, disrupting electricity supply to several areas.

The fire broke out at the old electrical substation in Datiara around 5:30am on Saturday (August 29). No casualties were reported in the incident.

After receiving the news, a unit of the Brahmanbaria Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control after around 15 minutes of efforts. No major damage was reported.

Mohammad Nasir Uddin, assistant engineer of the Brahmanbaria Electricity Distribution Division, said an auxiliary transformer at the substation suddenly caught fire in the early hours of the morning. Fire service personnel later arrived and brought the blaze under control.

“As the transformer was damaged in the fire, electricity supply to some areas has been suspended. Efforts are underway to repair the damage and restore power as soon as possible,” he said.

Mohammad Nazmul Alam, senior station officer of the Brahmanbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence Station, said they quickly reached the scene after receiving the report of the fire and managed to bring it under control after 15 minutes of efforts.

However, the exact cause of the fire could not immediately be confirmed, he added.
