A microbus driver was killed when a vehicle carrying medicines collided head-on with a passenger bus in Gaibandha on Thursday morning.
The accident occurred around 10am in the Majhipara area on the Gaibandha-Palashbari road, according to witnesses.
The deceased was identified as Masud Rana, 40, son of Faizar Rahman of Bashgora area in Thakurgaon Sadar.
Witnesses said a passenger bus operated by Alhamra Paribahan was heading towards Dhaka in the morning. Meanwhile, the medicine-carrying microbus was travelling towards Gaibandha.
The vehicles collided head-on in the Majhipara area. The bus veered off the road and fell into a ditch, while the front of the microbus was badly mangled, trapping the driver inside.
Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene after receiving the report and recovered the driver’s body from the wreckage.
Palashbari Police Station Sub-Inspector Harun confirmed the victim’s identity and said another person travelling in the microbus, identified as Md Sani, sustained serious injuries.
Sani was admitted to Gaibandha General Hospital. His full identity could not immediately be confirmed.
