At least 25 people, many of them schoolchildren and teenagers, were killed when a passenger bus plunged into a ravine on Fogo Island in Cape Verde, local media and officials said.
The accident occurred late Saturday on a mountainous road in the northern part of the island.
The bus reportedly veered off the road and fell about 30 metres into a steep ravine.
Several passengers were injured and taken to São Francisco de Assis Regional Hospital. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
The bus was carrying primary and secondary school students returning from an outing.
The driver, who had organised the trip, was also among those killed.
Cape Verde has declared two days of mourning following the tragedy.
