MOULVIBAZAR: Train services between Sylhet and the rest of the country resumed after nearly four hours when a coach of the intercity Paharika Express, bound for Chattogram from Sylhet, got detached in Lawachara National Park in Moulvibazar’s Kamalganj upazila.

The incident occurred around 1:30pm on Friday in the Magurchhara area of Lawachara National Park when the coupling hook connecting the train’s engine to a coach broke. The detached coach left the train stranded on the tracks, disrupting rail services on the Sylhet–Chattogram and Sylhet–Dhaka routes.

At around 5:10pm, an alternative locomotive was used to move the train to Sreemangal Railway Station. Rail communication with Sylhet was restored around 5:30pm.

Sreemangal Railway Station Master Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the incident. He said the Paharika Express became stranded at Lawachara, while the Jayantika Express was held at Bhanugach Station and another Paharika Express bound for Sylhet was held at Sreemangal Station.

The prolonged disruption caused significant inconvenience to passengers, particularly those travelling to Chattogram.

Paharika Express passenger Md Sabbir said he had boarded the train to travel to Chattogram. He said that had the train been stranded near a populated area, passengers might have been able to arrange alternative transport, but being stuck inside Lawachara made that impossible.
