Four workers were burned in an explosion at a steel rolling mill in Rupganj, Narayanganj, on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 8pm at Premier Steel Re-Rolling Mills in the Barpa-Ariabo area of Tarabo municipality, according to local reports.
The injured workers were identified as Sajib Sarker, 32, Rubel Ahmed, 28, Nazmul, 33, and Abir, 19. They were taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for treatment.
Doctors said Sajib suffered burns to 70% of his body, Rubel 25%, Nazmul 20% and Abir 10%. Sajib was reportedly moved to the intensive care unit because of the severity of his injuries.
A preliminary assessment suggests that a leak in the furnace may have caused molten metal to fall below, triggering the explosion and fire.
The exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed.
