The government is considering importing natural gas from Myanmar through a cross-border pipeline as part of efforts to strengthen Bangladesh’s energy supply.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh U Kyaw Soe Moe at the ministry on Sunday morning, according to sources.
During the meeting, the ambassador said he would convey the proposal for pipeline-based gas supply to his government for further consideration.
Officials said the initiative remains at an early stage, with discussions focused on exploring the feasibility of the project.
A separate proposal for a gas pipeline from Myanmar to India has already been under consideration, highlighting the region’s growing interest in cross-border energy connectivity.
