Dhaka: Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that the government is committed to implementing the July Charter in letter and spirit.
Speaking at a discussion held at the National Press Club on Monday (Aug. 3) at around 11:00 a.m., the minister said there are attempts to artificially push politics outside the parliament. He added that the BNP seeks the cooperation of all political parties to uphold the country’s democratic culture.
Swapan said that after so many sacrifices, the country’s democratic political activities should be centered on the National Parliament. However, he expressed regret that various political discussions and activities are increasingly taking place outside parliament.
He also warned that any attempt to use the remembrance of the July martyrs for personal or group interests would not be allowed to succeed.
The minister further noted that despite the immense sacrifices made, a complete national consensus has yet to be achieved. He said the current government wants the cooperation of all political forces in parliament and in national politics and remains firmly committed to implementing every word of the signed July Charter. He added that the government expects sincere cooperation from all sectors of society to achieve that goal.
