The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 161,608 Burmese yaba tablets worth an estimated Tk 48.48 million during an anti-smuggling operation along the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban. No arrests were made during the operation.
The raid was carried out on Thursday night in the Pradhanjhiri border area under the jurisdiction of the Jaruliachhari Border Outpost (BOP) of the 11 BGB Battalion.
According to BGB sources, the special anti-narcotics operation was conducted in the Pradhanjhiri area, about four kilometres inside Bangladesh from border pillar 46/1-S.
During the operation, several smugglers allegedly attempted to enter Bangladesh from Myanmar carrying a consignment of yaba. Sensing the presence of a BGB patrol, they abandoned the drug-filled cartons and fled into a nearby forest.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of 16 cartons containing a total of 161,608 yaba tablets, including 160,004 yellow tablets and 1,604 green tablets. The seized drugs have an estimated market value of Tk 48.48 million.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Faizul Kabir, commanding officer of the 11 BGB Battalion, said the border force continues to conduct regular operations to safeguard the country’s borders and prevent smuggling, human trafficking, illegal border crossings, illegal arms trafficking, and the narcotics trade.
