SSC pass rate falls as 6.9 lakh fail

Nearly 7 lakh students have failed this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, as the overall pass rate dropped significantly compared to last year.

According to official data, a total of 1,829,485 students registered for the exams. Of them, 1,138,877 passed, while 690,608 failed.

The results, published on 10 August, show the average pass rate has declined to 62.25%, marking a sharp drop of 6.2 percentage points from last year’s 68.45% under 11 education boards.

Education Minister Dr Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the results at a press briefing held at the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education.

This year’s SSC and equivalent examinations were held between 21 April and 20 May.

Officials say the lower pass rate reflects stricter evaluation standards and highlights the need for improved academic support and preparation among students.
