A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low, prompting a forecast of widespread rainfall across Bangladesh over the next five days.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s forecast issued on Saturday, the active monsoon is expected to bring gusty winds, thunderstorms and rain to many parts of the country, with moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some areas.
The Met Office said many places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, along with parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Barishal divisions, are likely to experience temporary gusty winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers on Saturday. Isolated showers are also expected in Dhaka and Khulna divisions.
Moderately heavy rainfall may occur at places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Meanwhile, the mild heatwave currently sweeping parts of Rajshahi, Pabna, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Feni and Chuadanga districts may subside in some areas. Day temperatures are expected to fall slightly, while night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.
The weather is expected to deteriorate further from Sunday, with rain becoming more widespread. Most places in Mymensingh, Barishal, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, as well as many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka divisions, are likely to receive rain or thundershowers. Moderately heavy rainfall is also forecast at places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
On Monday, rain or thundershowers are expected in most areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in many places across Rangpur division. Very heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
The rainy conditions are expected to continue on Tuesday, with most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, along with many places in Dhaka and Khulna divisions, likely to receive rain or thundershowers. Very heavy rainfall is again forecast at isolated places in Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
On Wednesday, most parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are expected to experience gusty winds accompanied by rain or thundershowers. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also likely in some parts of the country
