Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and opposition leader, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has stated that Muslims are not safe in India and continue to face constant threats to their lives, property, dignity, and security.
He made these remarks while addressing the closing session of a three-day educational camp organized for district and metropolitan working committee members of Jamaat-e-Islami at the Al-Falah Auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka, on Saturday (July 4).
Dr. Rahman noted that among the four countries of the subcontinent, their organization has faced some of the greatest trials. He also highlighted the ongoing struggles of Muslims in Indian-administered Kashmir, saying they continue to fight and sacrifice their lives.
He further remarked that one of the biggest challenges facing Jamaat is imperialist forces and social barriers. “Muslims are a universal community,” he said, “yet it is ironic that they are often labeled as a communal group.”
Emphasizing internal discipline, he described organizational discipline within Jamaat as a unique blessing not found in other groups. He stressed that the organization is guided by discipline, moral values, and accountability to Allah.
He also reminded delegates that a lifetime of reputation and achievements can be overshadowed by even a minor misstep.
The event, moderated by central working committee member Dr. Mawlana Shamiul Haque Faruqi, featured discussions by several senior leaders, including Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary Generals Mawlana ATM Masum and Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, as well as Mawlana Abdul Halim and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair.
Dr. Rahman stated that Muslims historically led movements across the subcontinent, culminating in independence in 1947. He reflected on the 86-year journey of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, noting the sacrifices, contributions, and martyrdom of many devoted members. “InshaAllah, the nation will be benefitted from their sacrifices,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of calling upon Allah with certainty (yaqin) and sincerity (ikhlas), stating that where both exist, there is no division.
Referring to the most recent national parliamentary elections, he said that Jamaat now holds representation in 90 seats, including reserved seats for women. He added that the people had hoped to entrust responsibility to a corruption-free party capable of cleansing society, claiming that Jamaat is best suited for that role. “Allah has entrusted us with responsibility according to our capability,” he said.
He further explained that if the goal is merely to bring Jamaat to power, the vision remains limited to this world; but if the objective is to attain the pleasure of Allah, then the scope extends to the Hereafter. He urged individuals to first overcome their inner weaknesses before attempting to reform society.
Dr. Rahman also stressed that those who hold firmly to the Sunnah of the Prophet and the teachings of the Qur’an will never lose their way.
He called for strengthening internal foundations through faith and unity, emphasizing that society, organization, and nation are built through the cooperation of both men and women.
He urged respect for mothers and encouraged greater inclusion of women in religious and social efforts.
Addressing local elections, he advised selecting competent and morally upright individuals from society.
He emphasized the importance of choosing candidates with integrity, lawful earnings, social acceptance, and leadership ability, regardless of their organizational rank, to ensure the development of responsible leadership at all levels.
