Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday released fish fry into the Old Brahmaputra River in Pakundia, Kishoreganj, as part of a government programme to boost fish production and protect aquatic resources.
The prime minister reached Pakundia by road from Dhaka around 11:30am and released the fish fry at Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat in the upazila.
After completing his programme in Pakundia, Tarique visited the Carp Hatchery Complex in Achmita, Kotiyadi. He is scheduled to formally inaugurate National Fisheries Week 2026 and distribute the National Fisheries Awards at the Achmita George Institution field.
Following the fisheries programme, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the historic Sholakia Eidgah ground in Kishoreganj Sadar around 2:30pm. He is expected to inaugurate a development project at the venue and participate in a tree-planting programme with leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.
Tarique will later have lunch and take a brief rest at the district Circuit House before attending a programme at the old stadium in Kishoreganj town around 4pm.
At the stadium, he is scheduled to distribute family cards and various grants and provide honorariums to imams, muezzins, khadims and people working at different religious institutions.
Earlier, the prime minister’s motorcade left his Gulshan residence for Kishoreganj at around 9:15am.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon said hundreds of people, including party activists, children and women, gathered along the roadsides to welcome Tarique as his motorcade travelled towards Kishoreganj.
“They welcomed the prime minister. He responded by waving to them with a smile,” Rumon said.
