The special audit process of the financial statements of three listed companies under the Beximco Group has made fresh progress.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has reconstituted its evaluation committee to assess proposals submitted for appointing consulting firms (auditors) to conduct special audits covering the last five financial years (2020 to June 30, 2024).
The securities regulator recently issued a revised order in this regard.
The special audit will examine whether the published financial statements of Beximco Limited, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, and Shinepukur Ceramics contain any irregularities, inconsistencies, or instances of concealed information.
The newly reconstituted evaluation committee has been formed to facilitate this process.
Earlier, the BSEC initiated the selection of consulting firms under an international standard, using a quality- and cost-based selection method.
BSEC Executive Director and spokesperson Md. Abul Kalam said the committee had been restructured to make the proposal evaluation process for appointing consulting firms more effective, transparent, and efficient.
He added that the firms would be selected in accordance with the prescribed regulations using the quality- and cost-based selection approach.
Under the revised order, the new committee will evaluate the proposals submitted for conducting special audits of the financial statements of the three Beximco Group companies for the five financial years from 2020 to June 30, 2024.
The committee will be chaired by BSEC Executive Director Md. Abul Kalam.
Other members include Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Administrative Officer Md. Golam Sarowar Sagar, while BSEC Assistant Director Rana Das will serve as the member secretary.
Previously, in February 2025, the BSEC formed an evaluation committee to appoint auditors for the special audits of the three companies.
At that time, several consulting firms submitted expressions of interest. Subsequently, proposals were invited from three consulting firms for Beximco Limited, 10 firms for Beximco Pharmaceuticals, and one firm for Shinepukur Ceramics.
