The government has launched a nationwide inspection and monitoring programme for public hospitals to improve healthcare quality, strengthen administrative discipline and ensure better public services.
The Health Services Division assigned 69 officials as inspecting officers for hospitals in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur and Sylhet, according to an office order issued on Sunday.
The officials, including additional secretaries, joint secretaries, deputy secretaries, senior assistant secretaries and assistant secretaries, have been instructed to regularly visit districts, upazilas and hospitals under their supervision.
They will monitor the digital attendance of doctors and healthcare workers and submit reports on attendance and other findings.
The inspection teams will also oversee progress in vaccination programmes, non-communicable disease prevention and public awareness activities, coordinating with deputy commissioners, civil surgeons, upazila nirbahi officers and upazila health and family planning officers.
The officials must submit their observations and recommendations to the designated branch by the seventh day of each month.
The programme will cover major specialised healthcare facilities, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital, the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital, NITOR, the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, the National Institute of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Mugda General Hospital.
