Bangladesh Air Force Wing Commander Saifur Rahman Saif was brought before the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday in a crimes against humanity case over the alleged enforced disappearance of BNP leader Ilias Ali.

Saif was taken to the tribunal shortly before 9:00am in a light-blue microbus.

The prosecution was expected to seek an order showing him arrested in connection with the case. On August 9, Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against Saifur Rahman.

According to the prosecution, the investigation officer found evidence of Saifur Rahman’s alleged involvement in the enforced disappearance of Ilias Ali.

The case remains under investigation, and he was produced before the tribunal following the arrest warrant.

Ilias Ali, then the organising secretary of BNP’s Sylhet unit, was allegedly abducted from Banani in Dhaka on April 17, 2012. He was a two-time member of parliament from the Sylhet-2 constituency.
