Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, returned home on Sunday night after attending the state funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in Tehran.
The Speaker arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:00 pm following his participation in the funeral ceremony, according to a Parliament Secretariat press release.
He had left Dhaka on July 2 to represent Bangladesh at the state funeral. On behalf of the government and the people of Bangladesh, he paid tribute to the late Iranian leader at the ceremony held at Tehran’s Grand Mosalla.
During the visit, the Speaker offered prayers for the eternal peace of Ayatollah Khamenei and met Iranian President and other senior Iranian leaders. He conveyed the condolences and sympathy of the government and the people of Bangladesh to the people of Iran.
The Speaker also appreciated the role of Iranian Parliament Speaker in implementing the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States aimed at advancing peace. He also invited Ghalibaf to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
Ayatollah was born on April 19, 1939, in Mashhad, northeastern Iran. He died at the age of 86.
