The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has reduced gold prices again following a decline in the local price of pure gold. The new rates came into effect nationwide at 12:15pm on Monday (July 6).
The decision was taken at a meeting of the BAJUS Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring, the association said in a statement.
Under the revised rates, 22-carat hallmark gold now costs Tk19,315 per gram, including VAT. The price of one bhori (11.664 grams) has been set at Tk225,275, down Tk3,281 from the previous rate of Tk228,556, which had been in effect since July 3.
The new prices per gram are: 21-carat: Tk18,445, 18-carat: Tk15,840, Traditional gold: Tk12,940
BAJUS said the latest adjustment reflects the fall in the local market price of pure gold.
The association also lowered silver prices. Under the revised rates, 22-carat silver has been set at Tk420 per gram, 21-carat at Tk400, 18-carat at Tk345, and traditional silver at Tk260 per gram.
BAJUS said making charges will continue to vary depending on the design of the jewellery. VAT is included in the listed prices, and retailers are not permitted to charge customers any additional VAT. Existing BAJUS policies on the purchase and exchange of gold and silver jewellery remain unchanged.
So far this year, BAJUS has adjusted gold prices 87 times — raising them on 43 occasions, cutting them 43 times, and making one VAT adjustment — in line with changes in international gold prices, local raw material costs and market conditions.
