The Election Commission (EC) has suspended urgent National Identity Card (NID) correction services at the Election Training Institute (ETI) until further notice as part of a major overhaul of its NID correction process.
The move means applications under several correction categories will no longer be accepted or processed at the institute.
The decision was confirmed on Monday by Md Saiful Islam, director (Operations) of the EC’s NID Wing.
According to an official directive signed by Saiful Islam, only Gh-category applications, which require approval at the director general level, will continue to be processed at the ETI. Services for K-1, K, Kh-1, Kh, G-1 and G categories have been suspended.
The directive also says applications that can be submitted online will no longer be accepted in hard copy.
The EC has reassigned responsibility for processing NID correction applications to field-level election offices. Under the new arrangement, K-1 applications will be handled by assistant upazila or thana election officers, K by upazila or thana election officers, Kh-1 by additional district election officers, Kh by district election officers, G-1 by additional regional election officers, and G by regional election officers.
Until now, urgent correction applications under the K-1, K, Kh-1 and Kh categories were processed at the Election Training Institute, enabling applicants to receive expedited services. The EC said the revised system will remain in force until further notice.
